Debbie is driven by her fascination with industrial developments and her passion for understanding and working in the energy and chemicals industry. Her vast experience has taken her all over the world, allowing her to apply what she has learned from her international industrial training to the local region.
During her over 20 year career with the Alberta Government, she was involved in the development of a value-add strategy for the province that focused on growing Alberta’s refining and chemical sector, and helped identify the need for diversification of the province’s energy business. Following her career with the Government, Debbie worked in the private sector with Sasol Limited, a South African energy and chemicals company that monetizes its international natural gas and coal assets into high quality fuels and chemical products. During her time with Sasol, Debbie was provided with the opportunity to locate to South Africa and be involved in corporate strategic planning, investment case development, and government affairs. Debbie then accepted a position with Stantec Consulting as the lead for Business Development for the Alberta North region where she worked with a team to implement strategies to strengthen the effectiveness of the company’s sales processes as well as raise awareness of Stantec’s services to new and existing clients.
Now with the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Debbie works to progress the establishment of a centralized applied research facility that will focus on testing and developing tools and technologies that support the chemicals and fuels sectors. The Centre for Chemicals and Fuels will operate in partnership with industry in bringing innovative processes and products to market.
