Reducing Control Valve Fugitive Emissions by 97% with Unique Sealing Technology

Studies indicate that 3.5 million metric tons of methane are lost into the atmosphere from oil and gas operations in Alberta alone, every year. Globally, these fugitive emissions are estimated to total 105 million metric tons per year, with more than 60% of the leakage originating from valves and pneumatic controllers. Although standards such as API 622, API 641, and ISO 15848 strive to curtail fugitive emissions from valves, standard control valve designs leak and require constant maintenance, nonetheless. This presentation examines a zero maintenance, near-zero emissions valve design that employs unique geometry and specialized sealing components.
